| 11/14/09 The great summer of 2009 is over and we are into a pretty wet late fall season. But this Saturday was shaping up to be a good break in the weather. It was to be cold but Dry. The night before (Friday Night) there were some short vicious snow/hail mix. The sky turned pitch black and it was not looking good. But Saturday morning is was just cold. Around 35 at 6am. But it was clear with a slight overcast but the sun was out. I meet Fred at Old Strokers around 10. We had coffee and some chat with Randy (a different Randy) the owner. It was around 11 when we geared up and headed out. It was just us. We headed east to the Snohomish Country back road and wandered on a North East loop. Fred had a new road he wanted to try. I had looked at it on the map before but never ridden. It was just south of Arlington and a nice alternate. We then looped north west and heading to Silvana for lunch at Willow and Jims Cafe. As we were heading west Fred turned South which we thought would take us to lunch. There some nice gentle curves. We then came to a good size 2 lane Hwy. Neither of us knew what road that was and it was not marked. We continued on what we thought was south. At the next intersection Fred say the GPS says we are going north? I said baloney we clearly turned south and had not felt that we had reversed course. I thought Fred was just joking around. He is pretty good at intentionally getting you turned around. So we continued on only to find soon that we were indeed going north? The map shows the little W uturn road. The twisties and road are just nice enough that unless you are paying attention you will not realize you have reversed direction 180 degrees. But we finally made it to lunch. After lunch we continued out wander south and home. I had to get back to pick up my car from the shop and Fred had a dinner meeting. On the way back Fred decided to get cute and he was going to turn behind me and race around the block to get ahead. But he turned down the wrong road. When I noticed he was not behind me I turned around to look for him. But we did not connect. So it was solo rides home. The weather was as predicted dry but cold. The roads were good and the Gerbings were warm and toasty. A great weather break day taken advantage of |
