Eastside Weekend (Weekend at Larry's). 08/21-24/09 Man what a summer this has been. It certainly has been one for the record books. I have a few vacation days left and it appears that the season is winding down for longer multi day rides. For various reasons our annual fall ride does not look like it is going to happen. Hey hold on the weather for this weekend (08/21-24/09) is looking great. Larry is living at Crescent Bar in his bachelor resort condo. Hmmmm. A quick call to Larry finds he is alone this week end and has some free bedrooms. Monday and Tuesday A standard Hwy 2 run over at mid afternoon. A buddy of Larry's is on his way over as well. Larry is off shopping for some BBQ grub and beer for the next 3 days. Friday early evening we spent on Larry's deck with a few beers and huge Steaks and Corn on the BBQ. We finished off the night with a few hours at the local watering hole at Crescent Bar. Saturday was to be the main big ride. A 400 mile plus loop to Flowery Trail Road. The weather was perfect. Clear sunny skies, no wind, temps in the high seventies. We rode the route shown below in a counter clockwise direction. The ride was great with light traffic. We did find the east portion of Flowery Trail had been chip sealed. But 2/3 of Flower Trail was in great condition.

for a almost a typical party night at Crescent Bar. A typical night might end at 4am at one of the resort area pools. But we avoided that. The Sunday ride was unplanned. We slept in a little and had planned on some local ride. Darren had to go home on Sunday so we rode in to Wenatchee for breakfast. Originally I had another 400 mile north loop planned. But with Darren leaving and a later start we decided to do a short ride and spend some pool time. I had never run the Intiat River Rd. It is a one way road up the Intiat river canyon of around 40 miles. I had heard that it was a very nice ride. It was and I was very sorry I did not have the camera running.
Sunday night after a great relauxing time at the pool was BBQ chicken on the deck over the river. No watering hole on Sunday night. around 9am. I ended up taking 3 or 4 hours for some local rides in the Wenatchee area and a return to the Mission Ridge Rd. I had been introduced to Mission Ridge a few weeks ago and had to ride it again and get it on film. It has to be one of the very best 4 mile rides in the state. It is longer the 4 miles and the beginning is very nice but the last 4 miles is fantastic.
One of my personal favorite rides is what I call the Orondo Assent. It is heading east from Orondo on hwy 2. A great 6 mile or so climb up a canyon to the high plateau heading east to Spokane. The climb up is nice high speed twisties. Traffic was light except for a few slow trucks. So I ended up making several stops for pics and to allow the road to clear ahead. In a couple cases I returned back a little to rerun some great parts of the road. I think I spent 45 minutes or more to do the 6 miles. short distance to Waterville and returned via Badger Mountain. There is around 3 miles of dirt but after that it is a very nice alternate to return to Wenatchee.
After that I was on my way home. It was a fabulous weekend of riding and some partying. What happens at Cbar stays at Cbar lol. I too Hwy 2 West and hit a couple of alternates along the way. It has been a fantastic ride season in 2009. I don't think it is over yet but this will be one of the last weekend rides for me. I have a ton of video for 2009 but with the great weather I have not been able to get to much. So I have lots to do over the winter.
