PNWRR Pelican Run 2009
04/18-19/09

The weather forecasters had been promising a nice weekend for a while. They
delivered and we got a 4 or 5 day stretch of summer weather. Saw some low 70's and
clear blue sky.

We slabbed it down I 5 for the most part for the lunch meeting at the start point at
Clatskaine (I call it Clatwhatever?) and
Humps Restaurant. This year we did not get
any Oregon riders with us. Don from Vancouver Washington joined George, Marv,
Steve, David, Doug, and myself for a small but good group of 7.

We would head south on Hwy 47 (Oregon's Deals Gap?) and Lumber road. Both
were great. This year we had no Oregon riders to help us plan the route. We did get
some scouting reports from Mark on the planned Bald mountain rout. But with the
snow we have had this year we thought it might be to early. So we planned a south
loop back over hwy 22. I tried to find a east loop to fill in the middle. Hwy 219 looked
pretty nice but as it turned out we had to do some dirt to get there. Once there we
found while the road was nice we were in the populated area of Oregon with to much
traffic.  So we got back to Hwy 18 a slabbed it to Hwy 22

We headed back north on Hwy 22 to Hebo on 101. It was a great ride with almost no
George had a nail in his tire. He pulled the nail and the roar of air racing out of the
tire filled the air. We have tons of equipment and electric air pumps to easily take
care of a normal pluggable tire repair.

Before dinner we visited the small bistro across the street. Shaun was the same
bartender as last year and remembered us. We had a few drinks there and then
headed to the Sportsman's Tavern for dinner. The main special was Prime Rib and it
was great.

Sunday the weather was still spectacular and we headed back north. The route north
was almost all great motorcycle roads. David had discovered that he had a very bad
tire on the back. He would be seeing cord before he got home. He would also get a
performance award from a local Leo in the Raymond area.

For my part I had picked up a little of the grunge before leaving. While I felt ok I lost
my voice Saturday night. I could not talk at all on the way home. But seems to be
getting better now.
