| Backfire Bike Night and The Long Way Home. 04/15/09 Cafe Racer, Ratbike, Vintage, Mopeds, And Vespas. That is the description of Backfire Motorcycle Night. I had heard of it but never gone. But the weather had thrown a nice weekday at us and seemed like a good local ride. Made a couple calls to see if anyone else was interested. Fred meet me there. The site is a small to medium parking lot on an old gas station in Ballard. I think it was a bistro before but is closed and being renovated right now. Across the street is the Bit Saloon. A small interesting watering hole. They have a ping pong table. I arrived early and there were a few bikes around. But they soon started to arrive. Many old Honda 750s and the like. Cafe Racers and Sport bikes of all kinds. There were also a lot of small engine chopper like bikes with stick shifts. They were pretty cool but for some reason I did not get a pic? We spent around 45 minutes looking around and had a beer. Being in the city not much of country roads to go home on. But Fred always has something up his sleeve. We stopped in Ballard for some Fish & Chips. Fred got faked out thinking small portions and order a 3 fish plate. But the portions were huge so I got half of his last fish. After that Fred lead me on a city ride home. At the start I was wondering what he was up to as we took a lot of simple straight residential roads. Going by the marina we were suddenly passed by 3 kids on scooters. Pretty embarrassing? But we are in the city so need to keep calm. About the time I am wondering about Freds ride he turns down a street at Shoreline Community College. From there he lead me on a fantastic city ride back home. It was very difficult to map it until I watched the video. It was only 14 miles or so but a lot of fun for a city ride. |
