| Squiggly Line Hunt in the Kayak Point area. 02/05/10 Wow what a day for the first part of February. Clear sunshine day with highs up to 63. There were hundreds of bikes on the road. My arm got sore from waving. There were a couple of roads on the map that I wanted to check out. So I headed north on a GPS squiggly line hunt. The roads in question were around the Kayak Point area. The road seemed to have some promise. There were some nice residential scenic areas with some good twists. But the roads were covered with almost killer speed bumps. They were killer in that they were old and the paint was worn off. So some were very hard to see and you could hit them faster then you want. I continued my wander home needing to get back so I could get ready to go to a small party in Seattle. So I wiggled my way back to I5 and headed south. I was in the second lane from the left shoulder when my bike started to feel squishy? At first I thought it may be turbulence from the semi to my right. But also right away realized it really could be a flat. A quick glance to the right shoulder which I would prefer. But to much traffic and to many lanes to move over. So I went to the left and pulled of the road. Yup I had a rear flat. Fortunately the bead was not broken. There was a large round bolt hole. So I ran over something big. I pulled out my tire gear and found that I only had one plug. I got the tire plugged and inflated and headed home. By that time it was to late to make the Seattle party. A word on road tire gear. I carry a very small 12 volt air pump. It is about the size of a THICK sandwich. You can pick up a pump like this for around $10 at Walmart. It plugs into my Gerbings (heated jacket) power cable. So it is easy to plug in and will inflate any tire. It will not pop a bead however. So If you bead is broken it will not inflate it. Along with a tire plug you can fix most tubeless tires. All in all a pretty good day. |
