| Pateros Weekend Date 06/07-08 Pateros Washington is a nice little town just north of Wenatchee on the River. It makes a great over night stop for any east side weekend ride. With a couple of Bars, Restaurants, and Bakery within walking distance. The weather here on the West side has been totally devoid of Sun. Since the 1st of the year we have had 23 days over 60 degrees. I think maybe 2 over 70. Alaska and Siberia are actually (true) warmer. So we were all ready for some sun and looked to the East. This had been on the schedule for some time and we all thought we would be well into spring by now. Well little did we know at the time that we were about to enter on of the coldest stretches of weather in history. |
| As run time approached we had several riders cancel due to the rainy weather. We had several who went who were thinking of bailing. But we prevailed and 5 riders dawned (some just bought) our rain gear and headed out. It was just drizzling as we departed Snohomish. But was coming down pretty good as we reached the pass summit. But as we continued or descent east ward the road began to dry. We then started to see some strange brightness. Along with the brightness came warmth. We were all very confused. But we all knew we had seen this before but could not remember when? |

It then became almost fully clear. We say blue sky and a strange bright globe object. At the first rest stop we pulled over and stashed the rain gear. To make a long story short we found some summer weather with temps in the mid 70s Stopping in Cashmere for some Gas we had some world famous burgers at Rusty's. After lunch we headed north on Hwy 97 with a run up the Orondo Ascent (Hwy2) and back down. |
Sunday most slept in a little. I was up at 6 so I took a north loop ride around Chief Joseph dam. After a late breakfast we headed back home via Hwy 20 the North Cascades. Stopping for about 30 minutes in Winthrop for some ice cream. The weather on the East side was great all the way. As we crossed to the West it again got cold but was dry. We have some serious mental issues here in the PNW and I hope we survive another year of no summer. |
