Long Beach for Fish & Chips
Date 11/23/08

This was the first of the Mystery Ride series. The idea that the group does not know where they are
going. In this case it was modified as the group knew the starting point and destination. For the full effect
of the Mystery Ride the riders will be given a start point the night or even early morning of the ride. They
will just be committed to the ride and ready. They will not know the Start, Route, or Destination. Sounds
like fun to me. I just need to get some others to do some planning so I can enjoy a true Mystery Ride.
In this case the start point was
known. The destination was
Long Beach for Chowder. I don't
do Chowder so I changed it to
Fish & Chips.

This was going to be a 400 mile
plus day and they are short right
now so we left Lynnwood at
7:30. The mystery part of the
ride started just south of
Olymipa. Littlerock Rd not to
much of a great road there just
a couple sections but it gets you
off I 5.

We lost one rider who fell back
due to some traffic but everyone
knew about the gas and meet
spot at Rochester. So we were
all back together again.

Leaving little rock was a little
funny and involved 2 turn
arounds due to maps not true
to the roads.

I am sure most were
wondering if we were about to
repeat the Lost episode. If
you have not heard of the lost
episode check out the
AAA08 Ride Report.

But we were on pavement and
nowhere near lost. I was soon
on course and we were off.

Continuing of Independence
Rd, Lincoln Creek, and
Bunker Creek to hwy 6. These
are some very nice south
sound roads.

Highway 6 to Raymond. I was
going to try a back road
around Raymond but I did not
find the turns. So we just hit
Hwy 101 and south to Long
Beach.

I did get a scare on Hwy 101
as we hit a long straight we
were really just cruising along.
I think I was doing around 65
in a 55. Far ahead I see what
could be an oncoming Stater.
I touch the break to slow a
little more and bam on come
is lights.

Frak did I just lead the group
into a speeding ticket and is
65 really speeding?

But I guess he just wanted to scare us as he did not turn around. I slowed for while to the speed limit and
as it turned out ran into another oncoming Stater a few miles down the road. We simply have to many
Staters in the state. Not long after one of our group speed up to me and indicated I was going to slow. I
guess he had not seen us get lighted up.

We hit Long Beach right about at
noon as planned. Had a good
lunch at Doogers and a quick
photo stop on the beach.
Returning via 101 to Kingston for
the ferry ride to Edmonds and
home. I got home about 7 and 430
miles. Little cool for most of the
ride but the Gerbings took care of
that.

Everyone enjoyed the southern
routes and agreed it would be fun
next year to spend a weekend
exploring the area.

Next time we will try the full
Mystery Ride.
