| PNWRR IceCycle Run. Date 11/30/08. Around 7 of us headed out from the Lynnwood JIB. The weather was balmy. The run down 405 and 169 to Maple Valley was unevent full. We stopped at the Chevron to connect with Doug so now we were 8. It was soon after this that I was to convert this ride to a mystery ride. That fact was really unknown to me but I am getting my turn around signal down. It was after all the Last Sunday Mystery Ride. |
| My route had a left turn off 244th to loop around to Landsburg. I made that turn. But then could not find the next turn. I am wondering if I have brain damage right now since the turn is clearly there on Google and you can see it on the Sat. But I know I did not see it there? Any way we turned around. Fred said the turn was one intersection further on 169. So we went back to 169. The turn Fred indicated did not look right so we continued on to Kent Kangley and continued from there. Fred led us over a great detour over Mud Mt Rd around Enumclaw. That will be a standard route for me around there. Just south of Buckley was were the next part of the mystery ride was to start. I have never lead a group through there before and there are several turns to get thru the area. In and this case I was on 165 out of Buckley and forgot that it turned into 162 which is what I wanted. But I had 165 on my mind trying to remember the various turns. So I turned south were it said 165 south. Unknown to me at the time was this road went to Carbonado and would not go thru. As it turned out 3 bikes followed me. I am not sure why all did not unless perhaps we were spaced out to far. Or perhaps Roland knew that was wrong and assumed command? Fred followed thinking I perhaps knew of an unknown road. I did not. I thought this did not look right but was not sure and the road was fun. When we finally hit a y in the road the one side said closed and the other looked like the road was going away I knew I fraked up. Fred pulled up and I said am I lost. He said yup. |

So at that point I resigned and fired myself revoking all licenses to lead rides south of I5. Fred took over and lead us out of there and showed me another side road that could make this a reasonable alternate route in the area. We picked up another rider in the Kapowskin area. As we were leaving Morton heading west we were again lit up by an oncoming LEO. We were around 40 in a 30 but he just lit us up and continued on. Twice in 2 weeks? Perhaps this is a new thing? Lite up oncoming MC riders? As we were heading west on 507 I wondered if Fred knew about the Centralia Alpha road? I considered passing him just in case but did not. I also noticed that we had picked up our separated riders behind us. I guess they had stopped at Morton. So we were a full group again. Fred missed the Alpha road I did not want to spend the time getting the group turned around. So we continued on. Later Fred waved me ahead. So we finished the ride with that very long and boring section of Jackson Highway. We ended up with 26 or more at the Olympic Club for a great lunch. Last year we tried to reserve the Green Room but there was some issue with cost or we had to guarantee to spend over $300 or something like that. This year I called at the last minute and they set it up for us with no preconditions. So perhaps we can do that next year? Fred, Roland, and myself returned north via 507, 167, 405. The IcyCycle run continues to grow and we have only seen and Icecicles the first year. |
