| Chuckanut and Hwy 9 Saturday 4/07/07 Great I finally got my wheel upgrade done. The bent rotor has been replaced and the wheel now spins free. Time for a ride to check it out. It is around 9:30 am. Where to go. Hey the Cycle Barn Group is riding up to Bellingham via Chuckanut. They left at 9 but are stopping at Smokey Point. I may be able to catch up. If not I will just wander North. Got on I 5 and headed north to Smokey Point. That is about 20 miles. Not a bad ride once you get past Marysville. Not many other good options getting out of town. Be careful on the I 5 stretch past the Casino. Lots of costly speeding tickets available there. Pulled up the Smokey Point Cycle Barn to be greeted by 20 or so bikes. Wow good turn out. They are just getting ready to roll. Dave the leader is breaking in a rental Harley today so he will be leading the slow group. |
We took the somewhat standard rout. A short north ride on I 5 to Pioneer hwy and west to Stanwood. North on Pioneer hwy to Conway. North on Best rd and straight thru to Edison for entry to Chuckanut. All a pretty plain ride to Chuckanut. Did pass some tulip fields in bloom. Dave had planned a straight shot up best road which is pretty much that straight all the way to Edison. There several other options for this north stretch of road. But I think the idea was to get to Chuckanut . The weather was overcast but no rain at that point. Chuckanut was almost void of traffic. Which of course made for a very nice ride. We were pretty stretched out with the fast guys first and the rest in several groups behind. I was at the end of the fast group. The new wheels, tires and shocks are working great. No more rear end wobble. I am leaning further with confidence. The Avon’s are feeling solid on the corners. |
| We rolled into the old down town area of Bellingham. Pretty much filled up a gas station parking lot at the whole group gathered. We went a few blocks into old down town for some lunch. Most ate at a great sandwich shop in an antique type mall. Some wandered up to a local Mexican joint and others to a Fish & Chip wagon. The return route was back down Chuckanut and east on Bow Hill to Hwy 9 for a south return. Our group returned via Hwy 9, Beaver Lake, Knapp and Jordan Rd Snohomish, and River Rd. No rain and nice ride. I logged around 190 miles or so. Randy The X Man. |
