North Snohomish County Mystery Ride
02/14/09

This was the ultimate mystery ride to date. I have been riding Snohomish County for
years and thought I pretty much knew every good motorcycle road around. However
once we got out of town Fred took an unknown left hand turn in the Machias area. So
we were off on a ride of discovery and this was to be one of many virgin (for me)
roads.

We were a group of around 7 riders. Bill was getting off to a rocky start at Old
Strokers with some goofy issues. Rather then have us wait he had sent us off and
would meet us at the lunch stop in Edison. The group got a little strung out as we
raced along the nice country road. We regrouped and the first intersection and
headed off.
I was the second rider in the group and had been checking behind me. We seemed
to be together at the first intersection. I then enjoyed the next mile or so and when I
looked behind I only saw one rider. We pulled over to wait and no one ever came. In
addition the 3 rider went down the street. We thought he was doing a long turn area
so thought he may have gone by his place which was what he did.

Fred and I backtracked but did not find our riders. They had gotten behind some
slow traffic and missed the turn. Larry has his cell interfaced to his Garmin so we
were able to call them and were able to reconnect a few miles down the road. No one
got lost the rest of the ride.  We reconnected with Bill at the Edison Cafe. Had a great
lunch there.

After lunch  several riders headed straight back with some Valentine day dates. The
rest of us continued they many more back roads. This was a busy eat out day as we
had just had lunch and also had a PNW Road Riders dinner the same day in
Kirkland. It was 1:30 or so now. So Fred did a great job of guiding us thru Snohomish
back roads to arrive at the Kirkland dinner meet at 5:40 or so. I was worried that with
a kind of late lunch that I would not be hungry for dinner. But after several hours of
back road riding that was not a problem. Total miles for the day was around 230.
