Cycle Barn Snoqualmie Casino 01/17/09 Seems like it has been a long time since the last ride. With one of the worst winters seasons in history it has been pretty quite. The bike has been sitting dirty in the garage for weeks. But now we have been given a break in the weather. While it is dry we have been in a permanent fog bank for several days. So there I sat looking out the window at the fog and it looked pretty cold. The Cycle Barn has a short local ride today to the Snoqualmie Casino. But I am slow this morning and the weather is not looking good. Finally I say frak this its time to ride. So I get off my butt and gear up. Out the door and to the garage. The ST was sitting there dirty as hell but a fresh K&N air filter and oil. She seemed to be smiling at the prospect of getting out of the garage.
Stopped to gas up then on my way to the Barn. Man there were a pile of bikes there. I made it in just in time for the last of the standard ride meeting. Dave ran thru that pretty fast. Most everyone was a regular rider and knew it by heart. The more important thing was the donut. There was one maple bar left and it had my name on it. 19 bikes headed out for the 50 mile or so ride up the thru the Carnation valley. With all the recent floods and this area being in the middle of all that the roads were quite nice.
The fog was still hanging around and got pretty thick as we approached the Snoqualmie Falls. Was not sure if Dave was going to stop there or not. I was hoping he would as I wanted to see the falls with all the high water. The roads were a little damp and the fog was thick. I was wondering if it was because of the falls. Good news, Dave stopped there for a look. Bad news, while you could hear the roar of the falls we were in a cloud. You could not see a thing. After a short cold break we continued on. Just a mile or so east of there we broke out of the fog to a clear blue sky. Man it is still there. The blue sky, the sun. We have not seen those for a long time. The temps never got over 40 but the gerbings took care of that. Clear blue sky and toasty warm jacket and gloves. The Casino is on a hill with a great view. We rode into the parking garage and up several floors. If you park at the bottom it is a 6 or 7 floor elevator ride. You don’t want to park in the south 40 of the parking lot it can be a long walk. Once in the Casino we walked the length checking it out on our way to the buffet. The days of cheap Casino food seems to be gone. The buffet for lunch is $16.95. A little steep IMO. But I have to say I might have been one of the best buffets I have had. The pepper bacon was thick, well cooked, and plenty full. You could have full breakfast, Not sure what all was on the lunch section. There was also a Mongolian grill section plus lots of good looking deserts. So I soon felt better about the 17 bucks. After lunch we headed back. We broke up in several groups depending on were you wanted to go on the way home. Around 6 of us returned backup Carnation Valley with a few variations. Foggy again at the falls but broke thru to clear blue skies on the other side. So that was ride one of 2009 just a little over one hundred miles. A short one by my standards but after a couple of months stuck in the house it was great.
