PNW Road Riders Spring Break 2008
Date 05/01/08 thru 05/04/08

I believe that this was the 4th annual Spring Break Ride. Last year it was a traveling ride from Seattle , to
John Day, and Lewiston. This year we decide to spend most of the ride out of John Day. It was to be a 5
day ride with the first night in Maupin.

The weather was threating to snow us in on Thursday. There was snow in the pass just a few days ago.
The Portland area riders were unable to cross the Cascades and needed to a Columbia Gorge ride to
get by the mountains. We thought we may have to do the same thing. The weather did clear and even
thought Snoqualmie pass was cool it was clear. The sun was in full display on the east side of the
mountains

We detoured off I90 over Hwy 10 and
the Yakima Canyon. Back to I90 and
Hwy 82 to Sunnyside. The real ride
was to start there. Heading south on
Glade rd to the Bickleton Goldendale
Hwy. Some great but short canyon
sections to Goldendale. West out of
Goldendale and down Hwy 142 and
Klickitat to Lyle.

Shooting south on Hwy 197 we took
Hwy 216 to the Deschutes River Rd
into Maupin. This was the beginning
of our Oregon Adventure.

After a blast over to Shaniko for
some Ice Cream we spent Thursday
night at the
Imperial River Co. A
great spot to spend the night.
Restaurant and Lounge on site.
Great continental Breakfast. But no
TV?

Over the next 2 days we rode many
of the Great and varied roads of
Eastern Oregon. Great curves and
pavement. Huge scenery and very
little traffic.

We had our share of road problems
with 2 flats. 3 of out group started the
ride with what we thought were tires
good enough for 2 thousand miles.
But we were to find we were wrong.
With one full day of riding before our
planned return on Monday 3 of us
found we were on worn out tires. One
rider had some cord showing. So with
half our group leaving Sunday any
way we decided to call it a ride. We
did however pack one more full day
of Oregon roads into our ride home.

Check out the Pictures.
