| Run 21 2007 July 27-29 Run 21 is back. After a brief not to successful fall back to the basics it has returned to its former self. Run 21 has returned to Birkenfeld. With a great band line up and a huge main stage it is back. The rally was held on a new site a mile or so down the road from its last location. But still just 3 miles west of Birkenfeld. The new location has 2 maybe 3 camping areas. As you ride in you are in the general or car and RV area. As you move thru you come to a short gravel road that connects to the bike only camping and downtown area. This area was supposed to be limited to bikes only but some cars and trucks came thru and stayed. They did allow drop offs but no one would ask you to take the car out after. I like the bike only idea and hope they follow thru better next year. However it was ok this year. I was told there was another area I did not see for the vendors. The river ran thru the area. While it was hard to find there was river access and many were playing in the river. The Main stage was back to a big pro setup. It was at the back down a slight incline. So there was plenty of room for standing crowds and space for people to sit on the incline and easily see the stage. Friday night the bands were The Redeemed with Steve Lockwood, Peace Frog, and Drop Dead Legs. Peace Frog is a Doors tribute band. They were incredible. You felt transported back in time to the good old days. Drop Dead Legs is a Van Halen tribute band with a girl lead. They also were great. The crowd was up and dancing all night. The weather Friday was good. Some clouds kept the temps comfortable. Night was warm and nice for camping. Saturday the weather was again good. The clouds kept the temps down but it was still a sunny day. I rode an 80 mile or so loop around the area Saturday morning. Getting back as the bike games were going on. They had quite a few and many participants this year. For me it got a little long. The Run 21 girls put on a good show and the Beer Belly and Tattoo shows were good. The Dyno booth was there again. The Burn Out contest was light this year. I guess no one wanted to leave any tire at the site. Or it may be that everyone knew who was going to win it. The same fellow (forgot his name) has won it every year that I have been there. But he is willing to go however far he needs to. He will blow the tire every year. This year he blew his engine as well. Check out the Video. Saturday night the bands were Danny Hay Davis, El Loco, Jr Sims and the Texas Special, and Randy Hansen. I did not catch Danny Davis. But El Loco which really seems to be 2 bands was great. The main guys came out and did there stuff. Then they turn it over to 3 other guys who replace them and they do there stuff. While they were all good the second group of El Loco really rocked the house down. Jr Sims followed up. About this time I was winding down. I guess I spent my self on Friday night which was really the rock in roll night. Paul (my riding buddy) and I had finished off our beer and now the vendors had run out of Bud Light. So I decided to listen to the rest of the music in my tent. Our camp site was rite at the entrance to our area. We were in prime bead territory. Some set up a bead station to attract ladies as they entered the main site. Very interesting. There was also a fellow doing some sucker fishing. He had a toy pair of binoculars on a fish line attached to a pole. He would place the binoculars on the ground and wait for someone to try and pick them up. He would then real it in. Many good laughs there. Sunday we woke to a heavy mist and good amount of dew. So the tent got taken down wet and we departed. Some good rain on the way north of Kelso. But the sun came out and dried us off. Run 21 in 2007 is back. I believe it was and again is the biggest run in Oregon and Washington. Except for the Next 100 Years in Rosalia (which is in 3 weeks) I can think of no bigger (many bands) run. One had said he thought it was the biggest on the west coast. But I think that may be pushing it. I have been to the last 2 Redwoods Runs and we are not quite there yet. But I think we could be on the radar?
