PNW Road Riders Pelican Run 2007
04/15/07 Day 2

Had a pretty good time last night. Not counting the skimpy dinner at the Pelican. The little bar at the motel was friendly
and fun till it closed at 9 or so. The Sportsman Tavern was active and those from the motel bar all ended up there.
Was back to the room and in bed by 11:30 or so.

Sunday morning awoke to bright sunshine. Made some coffee and headed out to the balcony walkway to see if anyone
else up. Was greeted with bright sunshine and a misting type of rain. Hey were was this coming from? Not much in the
way of clouds? Must be an ocean thing. Bill said it was an Oregon dry rain.
We soon got ourselves geared
up and the bikes packed and
dried off. We left Pacific City and
headed south on 101. It was a
nice morning ride on the Oregon
Coast. A little mist here and
there but otherwise clear and
sunny. The ocean view of to our
right was nice. The waves
seemed pretty good to me. But
they may have been just normal.

I was leading since I had
suggested the restaurant and
knew were it was. Was tempted
to stop a couple of times to
check out the view. But I did not.
That is a problem with me. I do
not like to stop to smell the
roses. Then I always think I
should have?

After a short ride we stopped at
Maxwell’s in Lincoln City. Have
never been disappointed there
with a meal. Was good again.

From here Paul took the lead
and we headed East on 229 or
Siletz River Rd. Another
fantastic Oregon road. Nice
pavement, mostly mild but with
some wild twisties. The
pavement was a little wet in
spots. Just enough to cause me
to be a little more cautious. This
was another “oh crap I forgot to
mount the camera” moment. But
while the weather was good it
was still early and not the best
light to film by. So a great
excuse to spend another
weekend in the area to film. We
will call this a scouting ride.
Yeah I like that.

At Siletz we headed east on
Logsden Rd. There is one gas
station just east of town. I think
they only had Regular. I think I
would make sure the gas at
Lincoln City just in case. This
was another nice road. It did
however feature a couple of
miles of dirt and gravel section.
But not bad.
Continue on and take a left at Nashville. Could not find any music going on and the Grange seemed to be closed.
Another left at Hwy 20. Another left at Kings Valley Hwy.

From here we wound our way back north towards Portland and then Seattle. The road was pleasant but now starting
find its way back to inhabited areas. Altogether a great ride around 700 miles.
