Ride to The Redwoods (Redwood Run 07)
06/6-10

Had thoughts of making the first day a big one and rambling down to Albany Oregon. But the weather was not
looking good for Wednesday. So just ran down I'5 to Albany. I managed to avoid and rain but talked to several
others who were not so lucky. This run in a  very small scale is a little like Sturgis. In that you will meet several other
groups all heading South.

Thursday night I spent in Albany. I was joining in with a group from Hub City Abate for the ride down. We had a quite
dinner and chat at a local establishment. They still had some packing to do. So after a final walk to the local DQ for
a Blizzard I headed to bed.

run us out of gas pushing the first gas
stop to the limit. But we all made it. The
gods of gas consumption on a motorcycle
would get Al later on the return.

The weather did not rain on us but was
cloudy all the way to the pass. But we
finally broke into sunshine north of Grants
Pass.

This ride really starts to get good on 199
South of Grants Pass. We stopped at the
Red Carter (I think) for the traditional Milo
burger. It is a burger for the famous Rat
Bike Builder Milo. It has everything in it.

We were soon in the Redwoods and full
California weather. Great road and light
traffic.

Crescent City was our stop for the night
and a stay in the
Curly Redwood Lodge.
This is a nice stop along the road. After a
trip to grocery store to fill the garbage
cans with some beer we settled in for the
evening.

I think we could have almost made the 9am opening of the Rally site if we wanted. But we did a run down the Ave of
the Giants. I think we arrived at the Rally site around 10:30 or so. You could tell already that it was going to be full.
The top level camp site was filling. We did consider a scouting trip to the bottom to check those sites out. But traffic
was heavy and we decided to just take a good spot here. We got a nice area in the middle of the field and were able
to steak out a nice size plot for our 4 tents and bikes. Later we were to find we had a huge spot compared to most.

After the small trailer that Al was towing was empty we headed back to town and filled it with ice, beer, water, more
beer, and some other stuff. Later we outlined the idea for the perfect motorcycle trailer. Once empty it is insulated
and becomes a huge Cooler. We would then redesign the top to open and become a BBQ.

The main Bowl that night was packed. Attendance was reported in the 7000 area. The main bands that night were
Molly Hatchet and Joan Jett. I am always in the front 5 or so rows and I thought they were both great. Friday night
was clear and a little cold that night but we all made it.

Saturday I took of with one outer bike in our group and we did a 101, Hwy 1 loop. It was a great day and great ride. I
have a fair bit of Video on that and will do a separate ride report on that. The rest of our group stayed at the site
and had a blast at the Biker Games and Wet T Shirt contest.

The main bands that night were
Thundherstruck, Joe Bonamassa, and Gregg Allman. I love Thunderstruck, they are
hot and rock my house. They put on another great show. For me I prefer hot rock and while Joe and Gregg were
good they did not put me in the dancing mood. So I retired a little early for a Saturday night.

Sunday night was a little overcast but nice and warm. We awoke to a damp misting but no real rain. Ray had
decided to run all the way home on Sunday so he was up and packing early. The rest of us were going to make it a
2 day return so we were not so quick. We got out around mid morning and headed north. It was cool but no real
rain. However the gods of gas got Al when he tried to extend his range just a little bit. He ran out of gas just a few
miles short of our planned gas stop. Luckily after pushing his bike off the bridge we were on he had just enough to
restart and get to the gas stop. Lucky us.

From here we headed east on Hwy 36 north on  Hwy 3 to Yreka. More video here and another ride report later.

All in all another great rally
